“Wicker has a daily philosophy in its weaving, it cannot be done with a single material. It has to be done together, so ARTOTEL Yogyakarta applies woven elements in its design concept with the theme “Alignment and Harmony,” said Yulia.
She explained that to create artistic elements in its facilities, ARTOTEL Yogyakarta collaborated with 6 local artists in Yogyakarta. The process of selecting artists and determining the artworks created was curated by Heri Pemad, a renowned curator from Yogyakarta who is also the initiator and founder of ARTJOG. The six artists give the impression of “folklore” in every corner of the room, and throughout the hotel area.
“Starting with the legend of Roro Jonggrang, Aji Saka the creator of Javanese script and culture in Java, ‘Punakawan’ a folklore with comic and illustration style, about the legend of Mount Tidar which is represented according to street art style, and also the legend of Dewi Sri which is the goddess of fertility and prosperity located in the restaurant area,” he said.
ARTSPACE is a platform for local artists to showcase their artworks through exhibitions in the lobby of ARTOTEL Yogyakarta. The art exhibition will change every two months, providing a different experience for hotel visitors.
‘This of course also aims to help local artists to be able to express themselves and have a wider and more dynamic space to meet their audience. Not only that, ARTSPACE also serves as a melting pot between guests and artists and communities in Yogyakarta. This art exhibition is open to local artists and can be enjoyed by ARTOTEL Yogyakarta visitors for free,” he said.
