RI COFFEE EXPORTS TO US FROM JAN TO AUGUST 2022 REACHED US$698.18 MILLION

THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a discussion to introduce the archipelago’s coffee as well as to build business cooperation with Indonesian coffee entrepreneurs abroad.

According to the Director of America 1, Iwan Freddy H. Susanto, Indonesia has always actively participated in promotions through its participation in specialty coffee festivals, saying that in 2023 Indonesia participated in an exhibition in Oregon and previously in 2022 in Boston. Transactions booked this year were US$20.5 million, up 5.47% from the previous year which reached US$19.5 million.

However, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) last October 2022, although still in the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia’s coffee exports to the US during January-August 2022 reached US$698.18 million or around IDR10.8 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of IDR15,500 per US dollar). This figure is up 45.52% compared to the same period in 2021.

Meanwhile, Wisnu Birowo, Chairman of the Nusantara Coffee Community, in his remarks expressed his appreciation for the steps taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Representative. Furthermore, this community requests to be brought together with the Indonesian diaspora community abroad, especially in the American region.

The purpose of the meeting was not only to introduce Nusantara coffee but also to build business cooperation with Indonesian coffee entrepreneurs abroad.  In its development, this community movement has grown and has 3,200 members. All are spread across 28 provinces in the country.

By seeing the positive work of Indonesian coffee abroad, and the potential of Indonesian coffee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian representatives in the US have decided to facilitate the Nusantara Coffee Community to establish and strengthen relationships with the Indonesian diaspora in the American region. It is planned that this activity will be carried out online on May 20, 2023. [sources/photo special]
