INDONESIAN President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invited ASEAN leaders to enjoy the sunset from a pinisi boat in the waters of Labuan Bajo Harbor, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, Wednesday (5/10), 2023.
This activity was carried out by President Jokowi after a series of plenary sessions and meetings of the 42nd ASEAN 2023 Summit on the same day, were completed.
President Jokowi initially waited for the group of ASEAN leaders and their companions to arrive at the Meruorah Hotel before their car departed for the Labuan Bajo Marina pier to board the pinisi boat that they would board.
At around 16.51 WITA, the convoy of ASEAN leaders arrived at the Labuan Bajo Marina pier, led by the car that President Jokowi was traveling in with First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo.
President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana then immediately boarded the pinisi boat deck which was prepared to enjoy the sunset, followed by the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hassanal Bolkiah who arrived accompanied by Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
After that, one by one the ASEAN leaders took turns getting on the deck of the Phinisi ship. On the deck of the Phinisi ship, chairs have been provided arranged around a table as a place for ASEAN leaders and their companions to spend the evening chatting.
President Jokowi and the First Lady sat in the very center of the deck, right in contact with the main mast of the Pinisi ship’s sail.
Then clockwise, sitting around the table is Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim with his companion, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. with companions, Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong with companions, and Timor Leste Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak with companions.
Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Don Don Pramudwinai, Prime Minister of Laos Sonexay Siphandone along with their companion, Sultan Hasanal Bolkiah with Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, Prime Minister of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh, and Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen who are right next to President Jokowi complete the circle configuration.
After the media crew who took photos of the atmosphere of the ASEAN leaders and companions chatting were asked to get off, at around 17.00 WITA, the pinisi ship sailed further into the middle of the waters of Labuan Bajo Port to give ASEAN leaders the opportunity to enjoy the sunset.
It is known that after enjoying the sunset, President Jokowi is scheduled to hold a dinner for ASEAN leaders at Ayana Komodo Waecicu Beach.
The activity of enjoying the sunset is in line with President Jokowi’s intention to make the 42nd ASEAN Summit 2023 a momentum to promote Labuan Bajo so that it is increasingly known to the world. This was conveyed by President Jokowi upon his arrival at Komodo Airport, Labuan Bajo, on Sunday (5/7), 2023.
“This is a very good momentum for us to hold the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo to promote Labuan Bajo, so that all the world knows that in Indonesia there is something called Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara,” President Jokowi concluded. [traveltext.id]
