AIRASIA OPENS DIRECT FLIGHTS FOR JAKARTA-KUCHING, MALAYSIA ROUTE

AIRASIA airline officially opened a new flight route from Jakarta to Kuching, Malaysia on Thursday (6/15).

According to Indonesia AirAsia’s Director of Operations, Captain Wuri Septiawan, this route is currently the only direct flight from Jakarta to Kuching and marks AirAsia’s commitment to supporting the cooperation between the Indonesian and Malaysian governments.

“We also support the cooperation between the two countries, especially the state of Sarawak, in increasing connectivity and accelerating the recovery of the tourism sector,” he said.

He explained that round-trip flights from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Kuching International Airport are currently served three times a week, namely on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. However, opportunities to expand this service will continue to be evaluated based on passenger demand and public interest.

According to him, the opening of this route is not only to accelerate the recovery of the tourism industry, but also to strengthen relations and explore opportunities for cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia.

“With this route, we hope that more and more of our guests will be able to travel between Jakarta and Kuching easily and affordably, both for leisure and business,” he remarked.

He said, one-way promo rates are available on Airasia Superapp, airasia.com website, online travel agents, and other travel agents starting from IDR 899 thousand one way (Jakarta-Kuching) and RM119 one way (Kuching-Jakarta).

This special fare can be ordered by prospective passengers from today to 18 June 2023 for flight schedules between today and 14 December 2023.

The new route operated by Indonesia AirAsia marks AirAsia’s fourth international route connecting Sarawak to the ASEAN Region, after the AirAsia Malaysia route from Kuching, Miri and Sibu to Singapore which was launched last year.

“This is the first time AirAsia has flown this route and is the only airline that has flown this route. We believe that with the support and cooperation of all stakeholders, this route can become popular and sustainable,” he concluded. [antaranews/photo special]
