THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy appreciates the holding of the “Lake Sentani XIII 2023 Festival” which takes place on the shores of Lake Sentani, Jayapura Regency, Papua, by involving the community in performing dance arts and culture typical of the Sentani tribe.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, who was present in person at the XII Lake Sentani Festival 2023, Wednesday (7/5), 2023, said the Lake Sentani Festival apart from being a momentum for people’s parties also has a good impact on improving people’s welfare and become a means to preserve local cultural arts so that their sustainability is maintained.
“Today the 2023 Lake Sentani Festival is so lively. We saw earlier the wisdom of the people with culture and attractions to decorate boats. And so many affected communities and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are moving from this event,” said Sandiaga.
The Lake Sentani Festival, which was initiated by the Jayapura District Government, is an annual tourism festival that takes place around Lake Sentani, Khalkote, Kampung Harapan, East Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, Papua.
The Lake Sentani Festival, which lasts for three days from 5 to 7 July 2023, was opened with the Isosolo Dance which was performed by around 250 dancers from 10 villages consisting of two East Sentani Districts and eight Sentani Districts, Jayapura Regency. Unlike other regional dances, Isosolo Dance is performed on a decorated boat. This dance is usually performed on orders, blessings, or instructions from Ondoafi or Sentani traditional leaders.
In addition to establishing kinship ties between one village and another, the Isosolo dance is also a form of gratitude when the harvest season arrives. Bringing garden produce to give to family, relatives in the village.
“Maybe next year there will be an opportunity, contested and tourists will also be invited to get on the boat and take part in a traditional procession which might provide memorable experiences and memories for tourists. So that the job creation target is in accordance with President Jokowi’s direction of 4.4 million jobs. We can achieve it in 2024,” he stated.
Sandiaga believes that the Lake Sentani Festival can again become part of the Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN). Previously, the festival was included in a series of tourism calendars (calendar of events).
“We have a standard for KEN which involves curators and advisors who are used to curating and evaluating event products on a national and international scale. Therefore, I am pretty sure this festival will return to KEN because I saw it first hand. It only remains to polish a few aspects. “I’m sure this will penetrate the KEN next year,” he remarked.
The people’s party also involved 20 MSME actors. In accordance with the festival’s theme this time, “Sago is my life”, one of the superior products displayed is processed food made from sago.
Meanwhile Acting Chief Regent of Jayapura, Triwarno Purnomo expressed his gratitude to the Menparekraf who directly opened the 2023 Lake Sentani Festival.
“This is a new moment, a new enthusiasm for all movers, business actors and tourism in Jayapura. As the Ministry of Tourism said, we must hurry, geber, gaspol. Let’s take steps together to build tourism and the creative economy in Jayapura Regency,” said Triwarno .
