THE EVENT which was held to support the presence of persons with autism, the Indonesian Autism Foundation (YAI) on Sunday, (7/23), 2023 is YAI’s annual agenda and has been carried out continuously. After being stopped during the pandemic, this year with great gratitude, YAI will be holding it again
According to Dr. Melly Budhiman Sp.KJ (K), Chair of the Indonesian Autisma Foundation said the Walk4Autism activity, which has been running since 2007, the purpose of organizing Walk4Autism is to continue to inspire and increase the awareness of the Indonesian people for children with special needs, especially individuals with autism.
“When autism is increasingly known and understood by society, it is hoped that Individuals with Autism will be increasingly accepted and get equal opportunities and treatment with other individuals,” said Melly Budiman.
It is said, there is still a lack of support for autism due to the lack of understanding of society. People with autism are still considered by society as unable to socialize, so they choose to stay away from them. This fact later became the reason for YAI to re-organize the Walk4Autism event.
“So, the presence of people with autism and other disabilities. YAI believes that when given equal opportunities, people with autism and disabilities will be able to channel their respective strengths to encourage more innovation. An innovation that really respects differences, embraces diversity, and creates a positive impact on the wider community in an inclusive manner,” she remarked.
Meanwhile, Frederik Rotty, Head of the Walk4Autism 2023 Committee, said that the Walk4Autism activity is a gathering place for various autism communities, which not only consist of individuals with autism, but also families, therapists, teachers, and the general public who care. They enjoy being together while exercising and watching music performances by Individuals with Autism.
“That’s how this event was made possible thanks to the collaboration of so many parties, and we really appreciate the support for holding this event from educational institutions, companies, communities, to individuals. We invite more and more elements of society to unite in our work, building a more caring and inclusive society. This is not about us, him, or them as individuals, but about us as one community,” he concluded. [traveltext.id]
