EIGHT INDONESIA’S INT’L AIRPORTS TARGETED DOWNGRADE SINCE 2020

THE DIRECTOR General of Civil Aviation (DJPU) recently changed the category of Lampung Radin Inten II Airport from an international airport to a domestic airport. This flight field has been included in the list of eight downgraded airports in 2020.

In Indonesia, out of 340 airports, there are only 32 international airports. Others, 308 are domestic airports, including Lampung’s Radin Inten II Airport.

Through the DJPU’s proposal letter to the Minister of Transportation dated July 2020. The letter numbered Au.003/1/8/ORJU.DBU-2020 contains details of the proposed airport to change its status from international to domestic.

The eight airports include Maimun Saleh Airport, Sabang, RHF Tanjungpinang Airport. Then, Radin Inten II Airport, Lampung, Pattimura, Ambon, Frans Kaisiepo, Biak, Banyuwangi, Husein Sastranegara, Bandung, and Mopah, Merauke.

This discourse was reaffirmed by President Joko Widodo or Jokowi, Tuesday 31 January 2023. He said he would cut only 15 international airports. This assertion was conveyed by President Jokowi during a meeting with the Minister of State-Owned Enterproses and the Minister of Transportation, tourism industry players at that time.
