THE MINISTRY of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) said that the biggest contributor to air pollution in Jakarta does not come from steam power plants (PLTU), especially coal.
According to the Director of Air Pollution Control at the Directorate General of Pollution Control and Environmental Damage (PPKL) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Luckmi Purwandari, said that the PLTU has a clear policy of using new, renewable energy. The PLTU in Jakarta has also changed to using gas.
In addition, she said, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry had issued emission quality standards for power plants, namely Ministry of Environment and Forestry Regulation Number 15 of 2019.
“One more thing, this requires power plants to install emission monitoring devices with real-time, continuous and integrated continuous emission monitoring at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry,” said Luckmi, Tuesday (8/15), 2023.
The coal-fired continuous emission monitoring tool has a capacity of more than 25 megawatts. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry also ensures that the PLTU does not exceed the set quality standards.
“We have a company performance appraisal program every year that will be announced later, usually every December. You will see if he complies with these regulations,” Luckmi said.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry records that the biggest contributor to air pollution in Jakarta is motorized vehicles. Based on KLHK data, more than 24.5 million motorcycles will enter Jakarta in 2022.
According to Luckmi, most of these vehicles use fossil fuels which contribute to emissions. Motorized vehicles in Jakarta, especially motorcycles with fossil fuels, will reach 24.5 million in 2022. Of this number, 78% are motorcycles. [sources/photo special] .
