MINISTER of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir said that Indonesia’s upcoming bilateral meeting with China would discuss the sustainability of high-speed trains.
“In China, one of them is a deeper discussion of the sustainability of the fast train from Bandung to Surabaya, which is currently being studied,” said Erick at a press conference in Sarinah, Central Jakarta, Saturday (10/14), 2023.
The BUMN Minister said he would discuss infrastructure, energy and trade with China, while with Saudi Arabia he would discuss accelerating renewable energy.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to attend the Belt and Road Summit (BRI Summit) in Beijing, China, on 17-18 October 2023.
Minister Erick said he wanted to improve the structure of fast train cooperation, including regarding interest ownership.
“Because if we want to become a developed country, the infrastructure must be built, whether toll roads, railways, ports, airports, which will definitely take time,” he said.
Through infrastructure development, Indonesia’s competitiveness as a large country will increase to encourage economy and efficiency. The construction of fast trains also reduces air pollution and waste of fuel.
He said that Indonesia had never developed technology and developed a high-speed train before, so it needed time, one of which was to increase the level of domestic components (TKDN). [antaranews]
