INDONESIA STRENGTHENS SUSTAINABLE TOURISM COOPERATION WITH JAPAN

INDONESIA invites the Japanese government to strengthen collaboration and cooperation in developing sustainable tourism and also emphasizes the importance of collaboration in developing the creative economy as a sector that opens up more investment opportunities in Indonesia.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno when meeting with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, Tetsuo Saito at Tokyo Prince Hotel 3-Chome-3-1 Shibakoen, Minato City, Tokyo, Japan, Saturday (10/28), 2023 said that Indonesia is currently boosting the development of the tourism sector and creative economy with the concept of green and sustainable tourism.

“Now is the best time to invest in the Indonesian tourism sector, because the regulations are investment-friendly. Moreover, Indonesia has been one of the favorite destinations for Japanese tourists. Some of these destinations are Bali, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Labuan Bajo, Bintan and others,” he said Sandiaga.

Apart from investment opportunities, collaboration in tourism promotion, said Sandiaga, is also important for both countries. Sandiaga said that President Joko Widodo and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga had previously agreed to establish an important business travel corridor between the two countries when they met at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, on October 20 2020.

“Cooperation in developing tourism between the two countries can be carried out immediately, in the initial stage by opening direct flights from Tokyo to Jakarta and Bali,” said Sandiaga.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the number of Japanese citizens vacationing in Indonesia was around 520,000 people per year. Meanwhile, the number of Indonesian people visiting Japan is quite massive, reaching 920,000 people per year.

“We hereby invite Japanese tourists to come to Indonesia, especially to vacation in five priority destinations, including Lake Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika, Likupang and Labuan Bajo,” said Sandiaga Uno.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, Tetsuo Saito, welcomed the collaboration and saw opportunities for both countries in making joint efforts to develop the tourism sector. Moreover, together with China and South Korea, Indonesia and Japan have both been appointed as members of the UNWTO Executive Council for the 2023-2027 term representing the East Asia and Pacific region.

“Together we will collaborate for tourism in East Asia and the Pacific, especially Indonesia. And I thank you because we can share promotions with each other,” concluded Tetsuo Saito. [traveltext.id]
