TO STRENGHTEN TOURISM, EGYPT AIR OPENS DIRECT FLIGHTS CAIRO-JAKARTA

INDONESIA hopes that the opening of direct Egyptair flights from Cairo (Egypt) to Jakarta will be able to strengthen the performance of the tourism sector and creative economy in the country.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno during Egypt Air’s Inauguration Flight at Terminal 3 of Soekarno Hatta Airport, Tangerang Banten, (10/31), 2023 evening, explained that after 7 years or the last time it flew in 2016, Egypt Air is flying again to serve Cairo-Jakarta-Cairo route. “This flight has a full capacity of 270 passengers. We hope that Egypt Air can fly daily. We hope that this will be able to improve the quality of facilities and services in the tourism and creative economy sectors. Not only tourist visits but also product exports. The creative economy sector such as spices or spices and coffee are export commodities to Egypt,” he said.

Sandiaga Uno explained that based on data before the pandemic, Egypt was the second largest contributor of foreign tourists to Indonesia among African countries, after South Africa and the third largest among Middle Eastern countries after Saudi Arabia and Oman.

“The number of tourist visits from Egypt in 2019 reached 21,354 tourists. In 2022, the number of visitors from Egypt will reach 6,857 tourists, growing by 1.023% compared to the previous year in 2021,” Sandiaga remarked.
