FOREIGN TOURIST PERFORMANCES IN OCTOBER STRENGTHENS OF 2023 TARGET

THE MINISTRY of Tourism and Creative Economy, based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), provides the latest data on the number of movements of foreign tourists and domestic tourists. BPS data shows that the number of foreign tourist visits in October 2023 reached 978.50 thousand visits. Cumulatively, the number of foreign tourist visits from January to October 2023 has reached 9,942,004 million or an increase of 124.30% compared to the same period in 2022 (Year on Year).

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno in The Weekly Press Briefing, Monday (12/04), 2023, this number has exceeded 111.67% of the target limit for foreign tourist visits that has been set. Based on country of origin, foreign tourists visiting in October 2023 were dominated by foreign tourists from Malaysia at 14.16%, Australia 13.18%, Singapore 9.17%, China 7.7%, and Timor Leste 6.02%.

He explained that foreign tourist visits are dominated by air transportation, with Ngurah Rai and Soekarno-Hatta International Airports recorded as the main entry points for air transportation with the most foreign tourist visits.

“With increasingly strong collaboration from various parties, God willing, my dream of bringing numbers above 11 million foreign tourists can be achieved in 2023,” said Sandiaga.

Meanwhile, for the movement of domestic tourists, in the period January to October 2023 it has reached 688.78 million or an increase of 11.99%. compared to the same period in 2022. Java Island still dominates foreign tourists’ travel at 75.57%.

But what is interesting, in October 2023, NTB will become the province contributing the highest number of foreign tourists. Both from the origin and destination of domestic tourists. Namely 301.64% for origin and 379.34 percent for destination compared to the same period in 2022 (YoY).

“This is because MotoGP activities are a quality event which is proven to increase tourist movement,” said Sandiaga.

However, with a figure of 688.78 million movements, it is certainly still far from the target of 1.2 billion-1.4 billion movements. However, Minister Sandiaga believes that with the algorithms and formulations that are currently being adjusted, the movement of domestic tourists has actually reached over 1 billion.

“In the next one to two months, together with BPS, we will adjust the counting (of local tourists) so that movement to destinations within the province and also between districts can occur,” concluded Sandiaga. [traveltext.id]
