YEAR END, TOURISM MINISTRY EXPLAINS ACHIEVEMENT THROUGHOUT 2023

THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy held a ‘2023 Year End Press Conference (JPAT)’ which explained various Tourism Ministry programs including the performance achievements of the tourism and creative economy sectors throughout 2023.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, in the 2023 End of Year Press Conference (JPAT) at the Soesilo Soedarman Hall, Sapta Pesona Building, Friday (12/22), 2023, said that 2023 was a year full of challenges because it was only in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and was declared over and entered the endemic phase.

“Therefore, we are very grateful that all sectors can make adjustments so that targets are not only achieved but exceeded with the spirit of 3G, namely gercep, geber and gaspol, or the spirit of fast movement (gercep), joint movement (geber) and all potential employment (gaspol), in the concept of collaborative marketing to support economic revival and open up business opportunities and employment opportunities,” said Sandiaga.

He explained that the achievements of the tourism and creative economy sector in 2023, starting from foreign tourist visits, which until October 2023 reached almost 9.5 million. This figure is far above the target of 8.5 million. Hopefully we can achieve the target of above 11 million tourist visits by the end of 2023.

“The foreign exchange value of tourism until September 2023 was recorded at US$10.46 billion with the tourism GDP contribution estimated at 3.8%, the added value of creative and creative economy of IDR1,050 trillion, the value of creative and creative exports of US$17.38 billion, and the number of tourist movements archipelago amounting to 688.78 million trips until October 2023. The number of foreign tourist movements has exceeded the movement in 2019 or before the pandemic, which shows that Indonesian tourism has recovered very strongly,” he remarked.

Sandiaga added that these achievements have an impact on the tourism and creative economy community getting jobs again. The recorded number of tourism workers is almost 22 million and the number of creative economy workers is 24.3 million. With the intersection of the tourism business sector and the creative economy, there are already 38 million Indonesians who depend on the tourism sector and the creative economy for their livelihoods.

Then regarding the position of Indonesian tourism in the international world, Sandiaga explained the latest Travel Tourism Development Index (TTDI) report from the World Economic Forum. TTDI places Indonesia up 12 places to 32nd position above Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. Indonesia also managed to rank first in the Global Muslim Travel Index.

On that occasion, Sandiaga also conveyed the realization of investment in the tourism and creative sector in 2023. It was recorded that foreign investment had reached IDR8.70 trillion and domestic investment amounted to IDR14.99 trillion.

“So, the total investment in the first semester of 2023 is IDR23.70 trillion. Meanwhile, the work program that has been implemented by the Ministry of Tourism in 2023. In accordance with the National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN), the Tourism Ministry’s strategic program is divided into five focus indicators, namely sustainable tourism and creative economy; increasing competitiveness; creating “added value; digital transformation, and increasing productivity. Each of these indicator focuses is carried out with various program derivatives,” he stated.

For sustainable tourism and creative economy, the program being implemented starts with the preparation of the initial text of National Tourism Development Planning (RIPPARNAS) 2026-2040, standardization and business certification, maximizing the publication of the #DiIndonesiaAja campaign, as well as preparing sustainable tourism villages.

Meanwhile, for sustainable tourism and creative economy indicators, the Tourism Ministry is running the Karisma Event Nusantara program which throughout 2023, from all the events that took place, was able to encourage the movement of 7.4 million tourists with a turnover of IDR12.4 trillion and more than 11,400 Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) were touched and approximately 143,200 artists/events were involved.

“The increase in production of goods and services in Indonesia reached IDR212.9 billion and we hope that this will further expand in 2024. The Ministry is also rolling out the Action Aligned Synergy (Aksilarasi) program, namely a mentoring program and increasing the usefulness of 12 superior products in 5 super priority tourism destinations,” Minister Sandiaga concluded.
