DOMESTIC DESTINATIONS ARE TARGET OF LOCAL TOURISTS FOR YEAR-END HOLIDAYS

RESEARCH company Populix issued an annual report entitled “End of Year Vacation Plan Report 2023”, revealing that domestic destinations are still the target of local tourists for end-of-year holidays.

“Just like in previous years, domestic destinations are still the main destination for Indonesian tourists for end-of-year holiday trips,” said Populix Co-Founder and COO Eileen Kamtawijoyo in a press release, Wednesday (12/27), 2023.

Eileen said the Populix survey showed that the majority of respondents chose Bali, Bandung and Yogyakarta as their year-end tourist destinations, with the last week of December projected to be the peak of holiday activity.

He assessed that the high interest of tourists in visiting domestic destinations has the potential to improve the economy in these cities.

This, said Eileen, must be well prepared by local business owners and regional governments in anticipating a surge in tourists at the end of the year, especially amidst the increase in COVID-19 cases in the last few weeks.

From the study results, it can be seen that in 2023, 67% of Indonesians have planned end-of-year holiday trips. Respondents’ enthusiasm for domestic destinations is still high with Bali (28%), Yogyakarta (28%), and Bandung (26%) remaining their favorite cities for traveling.

Meanwhile, Japan (22%) is the foreign destination most targeted by Indonesian tourists, followed by Singapore (18%), South Korea (14%), Malaysia (11%), and Thailand (10%). Respondents had planned to go on holiday in the third week of December, but the majority (41%) will go in the fourth week of December.

For this holiday trip, 48% of respondents will take a vacation of around four days to a week, while 31% plan to take a shorter trip of around one to three days. For travel at the end of this year, airplanes (39%) are the preferred mode of transportation for the majority of respondents, followed by private cars (32%), trains (23%), private motorbikes (22%), and various other modes of transportation.

On average, respondents have a budget of around IDR5 million for vacation. This reflects that Indonesian people are becoming wiser in planning their holiday budgets. Reports also reveal that Indonesian people have a tendency to spend the end of the year with siblings, relatives or partners.

This Populix research was conducted from 21 to 28 November 2023 using a quantitative approach carried out via an online survey via the Populix application on a total of 1,058 male and female respondents aged 17-55 years in Indonesia with a survey duration of around 15 minutes. [antaranews]
