BOEING 737 MAX WINDOW FELL OFF IN THE AIR TURNS OUT IS MADE IN MALAYSIA

THE US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has confirmed that a door flap that came off an Alaska Airlines plane while in the air was made in Malaysia. The Boeing supply chain investigation was carried out on Wednesday (01/17), 2024.

Reporting from Channel News Asia, the door covers on the Boeing 737 MAX 9 are produced by Spirit facilities in Malaysia. Spirit AeroSystems is a major Boeing subcontractor.

According to NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy, her party was investigating the entire supply chain, starting from transportation from Malaysia to America, delivery by train to Boeing’s facility in Renton and installation of the door covers onto the fuselage.

Likewise, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the country’s civil aviation authority had offered its assistance to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He added that although the door closers were made in Malaysia, the components had been approved by the FAA.

“So even though it is produced in Malaysia, the product approval is under the FAA. “The Malaysian Civil Aviation Authority has proactively contacted the FAA to offer their assistance, following reports the door closers were confirmed to be made in Malaysia,” said Loke, as quoted from the New Straits Times, Friday (01/19), 2024.
