WHOOSH FAST TRAIN REVENUE 2023 IS SAID TO BE FAR BELOW PROJECTIONS

PT KERETA Cepat Indonesia China or PT KCIC’s income from Whoosh Fast Train operations in 2023 is said to be far below the company’s projections. A Tempo source who is familiar with express train operations revealed a comparison of the company’s projected revenue and achievements for approximately 3 months of operation in 2023.

The source said that PT KCIC until the fourth quarter of 2023 projected company revenue of IDR106.76 trillion. In more detail, the income is divided into other income worth IDR3.44 trillion, farebox (ticket sales) income worth IDR66.025 trillion, and non-farebox (non-ticket) income worth IDR37.29 trillion.

However, in the profit and loss report, said the same source, farebox revenue was only worth IDR212.8 billion and non-farebox revenue was worth IDR37.28 billion. For details, non-farebox revenue comes from retail, IDR21.8 billion; advertising IDR18.8 billion; naming rights IDR36 billion; parking IDR10.2 billion; ride hailing IDR1.1 billion; and others IDR2.7 billion. This figure is far below projections.

Responding to this, General Manager Corporate Secretary PT KCIC, Eva Chairunisa denied this information. According to her, the comparison is very far. “These numbers are not correct, they are very far off,” said Eva when contacted on Thursday, January 18, 2024.

For the actual figures, she said, PT KCIC is currently carrying out a reconciliation regarding the amount of the company’s income. “It should be able to adjust to projections,” said Eva.

Previously, Eva revealed the company’s sources of income while the Whoosh Fast Train was operating, one of which was farebox. Since operating for a fee on October 17 2023 until the end of 2023, PT KCIC sold 1,220,000 tickets with an average occupancy of around 75 percent on weekdays.

Meanwhile on weekends it can reach above 80%. “Passenger volume is currently still stable with occupancy above 50%,” said Eva on Wednesday (01/10), 2024.

Meanwhile, for non-farebox income, said Eva, management continues to maximize the use of commercial areas. To date, there are around 75 permanent tenants working together in the station area and 160 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the culinary area spread across Halim, Padalarang and Tegalluar stations.
