NORTH KOREA REOPENS SKI RESORTS TO TOURISTS AFTER 4 YEARS OF BORDER CLOSURE

NORTH KOREA has closed its borders since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The country implemented strict anti-epidemic measures, including mandatory quarantine and restrictions. However, North Korea has apparently reopened its borders to foreign tourists for tourism purposes.

According to CNN Travel, a Russian travel agency has advertised the first tour to North Korea since the country closed its borders. This tour will last for four days and costs IDR11,720,000 to Masikryong Ski Resort.

Meanwhile accoding to Koryo Tours General Manager Simon Cockerell, the trip will be the first trip to North Korea since it closed in January 2020.

“I would be careful in assuming that this will lead to a general opening to all tourists,” said Cockerell, quoted by CNN Travel.

The trip to North Korea advertised by the Russian travel agency was scheduled to depart from the port city of Vladivostok on February 9, 2024. The trip included a round-trip flight from Vladivostok to Pyongyang, North Korea’s capital, as well as a bus trip to Masikryong Ski Resort.

“Masikryong ski resort is located at the top of 1,360-meter-high Taehwa Peak, about 3.5 hours’ drive east of Pyongyang. In Masikryong, you will find yourself in a real paradise for winter sports lovers,” said the ad. [kompas.com/photo special]
