EGYPT recorded a record of 14.9 million tourist visits in 2023, surpassing the previous record of 14.7 million in 2010, as reported by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in a statement on Monday (01/22), 2024.
Egypt’s share of global tourism will reach 1.2% in 2023, up from 0.9% in 2019, recording an increase of 33% over four years, the statement said, citing Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa.
The minister said that Egypt targets to increase tourist visits to the country by 25-30% every year.
He also added that Egypt plans to partner with the private sector to encourage investment, increasing capacity to accommodate 30 million tourists by 2028.
The tourism sector is one of the main sources of foreign exchange for Egypt, contributing around 12% of the country’s GDP and employing around 3 million Egyptians. [antaranews/photo special]
