INDONESIA CONTINUES COMMITMENT TO IMPLEMENT ASEAN MRA-TP

INDONESIA prioritizes full implementation of the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professionals (ASEAN MRA-TP) to improve the quality of education and present a curriculum that is relevant to the needs of the tourism industry.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, when speaking at the 27th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers (M-ATM) during the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024, Vientiane, Thursday (01/250, 2024), said the quality of human resources remains the main priority each ASEAN member country in various sectors.

“Indonesia continues its commitment to the ongoing implementation of the ASEAN MRA-TP. Therefore, I sincerely hope to establish many great collaborations with all ASEAN member countries to further increase the capacity of tourism professionals, promote student and lecturer exchange programs, and expand international movement. community under the ASEAN MRA-TP umbrella,” said Sandiaga.

Sandiaga also explained Indonesia’s commitment to implementing the ASEAN MRA-TP curriculum which has been distributed to various tourism polytechnics in Indonesia since last year. It is hoped that the ASEAN MRA-TP curriculum will encourage students’ hard skills and soft skills to be better honed so that they are ready to enter the world of business, the world of work and the industrial world. As well as expanding collaboration networks with well-known universities in the world.

“Currently, the tourism polytechnic under our auspices has implemented the ASEAN Common Competency Standard for Tourism Profession (ACCSTP) and the Common ASEAN Tourism Curriculum (CATC) which are industry-based, flexible and well structured for six areas of work (hospitality and travel sector) in “tourism sector. All tourism polytechnics are pilot projects which are examples for other vocational education institutions in the ASEAN region,” he stated.

Indonesia places education for the younger generation as one of its national priorities. This is stated in the national long-term development plan for 2020-2045. The year 2045 marks the vision of a Golden Indonesia which has a demographic bonus. Golden Indonesia is characterized by a productive population that reaches 70% (between 15-64 years) compared to other age groups.

“Therefore, Indonesia will always strive to develop policies to support education in various ways because we believe that education is the best type of investment ever,” Sandiaga remarked.

Indonesia as the lead country coordinator for The ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professionals (ASEAN MRA-TP) continues to strive to encourage the existence of a regional secretariat in Indonesia. With the presence of this regional secretariat, it is hoped that it can facilitate the creation of a professional tourism workforce in ASEAN.

In connection with the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan Post 2025, Indonesia is also trying to provide input regarding the values of Blue, Green, and Circular Economy which will have a positive influence on tourism development and the creative economy in ASEAN and globally.

“Indonesia provides an example related to the application of renewable energy, then also green investment, and what Indonesia has done regarding carbon footprint calculations, strategic plans related to sustainable tourism, as well as tourism professional competencies which will be included in the ATSP after 2025,” he concluded.

The 27th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers (M-ATM) resulted in agreements such as encouraging wider implementation of the ASEAN MRA TP, formulating an ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Framework action plan, and preparing the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan post 2025. [traveltext.id]
