GOV’T EASING LICENSING NORMS FOR EVENTS TO BOOST SPORTS TOURISM

THE TOURISM and Creative Economy Ministry has said that it is simplifying licensing regulations for organizing events in Indonesia to boost the value of sports tourism to IDR18.7 trillion (US$1.1 billion) this year.

“We want to make sure that the licensing is not confusing or complicated. This is very important,” the ministry’s deputy for tourism products and event organization, Vinsensius Jemadu, informed at Soekarno-Hatta Airport here on Friday (01/02), 2024.

He delivered the statement while sharing the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry’s strategy to boost the value of sports tourism to the targeted Rp18.7 trillion in 2024.

To ease licensing for organizing events, Jemadu said, the government has piloted digitized licensing services for events. “We keep testing this,” he added.

He then explained the link between easing licensing and sports tourism development. There are two popular sports tourism categories, with the first one being hard sports tourism, which includes regular competitions such as the Asian Games, Sea Games, or World Cup.

“The second one is soft sports tourism, which is related to lifestyle sports such as cycling, running, and surfing. The ones that usually gather a lot of crowds are hard sports tourism,” he said.

Therefore, he informed, the government is easing the regulations for organizing events to boost sports tourism in Indonesia.

On Monday (January 29, 2024), Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said that the process of digitalizing event licensing is still on.

He informed that his side is waiting for the Finance Ministry’s confirmation regarding the mechanism for the distribution of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) that comes from event security costs obtained by the National Police. [antaranews]
