THE TOTAL value of investment secured in the tourism and creative economy sectors in the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara has reached IDR5.3 trillion (US$340 million), Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno stated.

“We have received commitments to investment in the tourism and creative economy sectors through the International Tourism Investment Forum (ITIF) 2023. The total value of such investments in IKN has reached Rp5.3 trillion,” he remarked during a press conference here on Thursday (03/14), 2024.

Sandiaga elaborated that PT Pakuwon Jati Tbk (PWON) invested capital totaling IDR5 trillion (US$320 million) to develop a superblock, while PT ARCS House Wisata Indonesia invested IDR300 billion (US$19 million) to build the Jambuluwuk Hotel and Resort in Indonesia’s future capital city.

President Joko Widodo launched the Pakuwon Nusantara Project encompassing apartments, hotels, and malls on November 1 last year and broke ground for the construction of the Jambuluwuk Hotel and Resort on January 17, 2024.

Minister Sandiaga Uno remarked that the development of the hotels is expected to be completed before the celebration of the 79th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day on August 17 this year in Nusantara.

He noted that the value of the gross domestic regional product of East Kalimantan, the host province of Nusantara, stood at IDR524 trillion (US$33.6 billion) last year, with the tourism and creative economy sectors contributing IDR9.14 trillion (US$586 billion) and IDR29.43 trillion (US$1.8 billion), respectively.

The minister further affirmed that the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry would highlight projects of sustainable and quality tourism at the ITIF 2024, scheduled for June, in a bid to rope in more investments.

He stated that his office plans to collaborate with Danish influencers to help promote Indonesia’s tourism appeal. [traveltext.id]
