BMW Indonesia officially launched the electric version of the BMW 5 series, aka the BMW i5, recently. Comes with only 1 variant, namely the BMW i5 edrive40 M Sport, this is the first time the BMW 5 series has full electric power.

The electric version of the BMW 5 Series with the code G60 has a new minimalist but bold design language. The front view of the new BMW 5 Series provides a modern interpretation of the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille. The BMW kidney grille now protrudes further forward and the BMW Iconic Glow, which lights up like on the BMW i7, is also presented as standard on the BMW i5.

Compared to its predecessor model, the BMW i5 has increased in length by 97 mm to 5,060 mm, width by 32 mm to 1,900 mm, and height by 36 mm to 1,515 mm. The wheelbase has been extended by 20 mm to 2,995 mm.

Comes in M Sport trim, various M ornaments such as an M spoiler, 20-inch M aerodynamic wheels 939 M Bicolour Black Gray and M Sport brakes in dark blue metallic are present. And the most obvious is the Exterior Line Titanium Bronze accent which adds a luxurious impression.

Entering the cabin, BMW has redesigned the interior, the most visible characteristic is the presence of the ambient light BMW interaction bar from the doors to the dashboard. Then in the center of the dashboard is a 14.9-inch BMW Curved Display with the latest OS 8.5. The quality audio system is contributed by 12 speakers from Harman Kardon.

The electric 5 series also work with the Airconsole gaming platform so that passengers can play various games in the cabin when the car is stopped. In this model, BMW also uses Veganza leather for the first time in the cabin.

The space-saving high-voltage battery is located in the underbody and provides 81.2 kWh of usable energy. The BMW i5 eDrive40 electric motor drives the rear wheels and produces a maximum output of 340 hp and maximum torque of up to 430 Nm with the Sport Boost or Launch Control function.

The BMW i5 eDrive40 is claimed to be able to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds. Regarding mileage, BMW claims the range can be up to 582 km (WLTP), and can even be increased by up to 25% with the MAX RANGE function.

The BMW i5 battery can be recharged via AC charging with an output of 22 kW as standard, and also with direct current (DC) with a power of up to 205 kW. The claim is that charging the battery from 10% to 80 percent only takes around 30 minutes.

Unfortunately, BMW has not announced the official price of the BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport. The plan is that in April 2024 there will be an official launch and presence at all authorized BMW dealers. [sources/photo special]
