INDONESIA’S Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, met with 25 investors from several countries to discuss investment plans in the Sanur Special Economic Zone (KEK).
Speaking at the UBS Round Table Discussion event at the Bali Beach Hotel, Wednesday (07/08), 2024, Sandiaga said that Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) is one of the largest banks in the world that brought a group of investors to see the state of health-based tourism in Sanur KEK.
“Today, we met 25 major investors to follow up on the health tourism KEK plan in Sanur, and their interest in investing is very high. We aim to have several clinics and hospitals focusing on health tourism in operation next year,” said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga.
The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy said that investors from Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan have expressed interest in buying several plots of land to be built in the Sanur KEK.
“But what is concrete is the opening of an aesthetic clinic and a major hospital in Sanur, which will start in March, so this is concrete. We hope they will also come here, in addition to seeing the 44-hectare KEK land, also as an exploration to assess the potential of the ecosystem outside Sanur in supporting health tourism in Bali,” he said.
Sandiaga revealed that the health services that are superior in Bali include aesthetic clinics, dental health services, fertility, IVF and geriatrics.
The target market for health tourism in Bali itself is the Indonesian people who have been spending more to get health services abroad. Other target markets include people from Australia, India and Malaysia.
“The hope is that about IDR 161 trillion spent by Indonesian citizens to get health services abroad and 2 million Indonesian citizens who get health services abroad can get health tourism services in Bali,” said Sandiaga.
Sandiaga hopes that the Sanur KEK will become the locomotive for the development of the health tourism ecosystem in Bali, and a model for the development of other health tourism KEKs in Indonesia. At present, medical tourism in Bali is very exceptional, so the interest is very high. [traveltext.id]
