THE simultaneous light-off action resulted in a 66.49-ton reduction in carbon emissions, according to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.
“The light-off action that took place on Saturday, November 9, 2024, resulted in a reduction of carbon emissions (CO2) by 66.49 tons,” stated Asep Kuswanto, Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service (DLH), in a press release issued in Jakarta on Sunday (11/10/2024).
In addition to reducing carbon emissions, the blackout action resulted in a 83 MWh reduction in electricity consumption.
Furthermore, the action resulted in a reduction in electricity consumption by 83 MWh, representing the difference in electricity load between 20:30 and 21:30 WIB. “According to data from PLN Distribution Jakarta Raya (Disjaya), the action resulted in economic savings of Rp120,263,708,” he said.
On Saturday night from 20:30 to 21:30 WIB, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government conducted a simultaneous power outage with the objective of increasing public awareness of energy conservation and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Meanwhile, Asep Kuswanto, Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service, stated that the action was a follow-up to the Governor’s Instruction Number 14 of 2021, which mandates the action of turning off lights in order to socialize energy saving actions and reduce carbon emissions every four times per year.
“This action is also part of a series of activities planned for the 2024 National Love of Flora and Fauna,” Asep noted.
He anticipates that this initiative will enhance public awareness of the significance of energy conservation and GHG emission reduction. “The act of turning off lights is projected to curtail electricity consumption and carbon emissions, while also creating a beneficial impact on the environment,” he concluded.
