SAUDIA, the national flag carrier of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is set to reshape the future of air travel with its fleet expansion and modernization initiatives. The airline, a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals, is positioned to transform the aviation landscape by introducing state-of-the-art aircraft and cutting-edge passenger experiences.
In a significant agreement with Boeing, Saudia has confirmed an order of 49 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The 787-9 and 787-10 models will enhance the airline’s global operations with extended range and sustainability. The new aircraft are designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 25% compared to the previous generation.
This agreement aligns with the Kingdom’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy, demonstrating the global carrier’s commitment to fostering closer ties between Saudi Arabia and the rest of the world. The additional aircraft will complement Saudia’s current fleet of over 50 Boeing aircraft and will increase the airline’s long-haul capacity. This strategic move allows the airline to meet the growing demand for travel to the Kingdom.
Furthermore, the brand’s ongoing partnership with Airbus will see the addition of 54 A321neo aircraft to its fleet. These modern aircraft feature advanced fuel efficiency, spacious cabins, and passenger-centric amenities, offering an exceptional onboard experience while aligning with the airline’s sustainability initiatives.
Saudia’s modernization program is designed to ensure that its guests enjoy unparalleled comfort and innovation. In collaboration with Panasonic Avionics, the airline will retrofit 30 widebody aircraft with the next-generation Astrova In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) system. Astrova boasts industry-leading 4K OLED screens, Bluetooth audio, and USB-C power ports for seamless device integration, offering a home-like entertainment environment
As part of its broader fleet upgrade, Saudia has entered into a contract with Collins Aerospace for the introduction of newly designed seats on its upcoming Boeing 787 fleet, scheduled for delivery in early 2026. Additionally, the airline plans to retrofit the interiors of its current Airbus A330 and Boeing 777 fleets, beginning in late 2025 and concluding by late 2027.
This includes the installation of private business class suites across Saudia’s wide-body aircraft, ensuring a luxurious and comfortable journey for passengers. The new seating arrangements have been designed with the dual objective of enhancing functionality and aesthetics, thereby raising the standard of Saudia’s service offering while reflecting the brand’s commitment to guest satisfaction.
Passengers will enjoy high-speed in-flight connectivity, allowing them to stream, make video calls, and browse with ease. To further enhance the guest experience, Saudia’s cutting-edge AI-powered Travel Companion provides personalized assistance at every stage, from tailored booking recommendations and dining suggestions to curated destination guides. This intelligent assistant ensures a seamless and engaging journey.
After the flight, the app streamlines feedback, manages frequent flyer accounts, and provides exclusive offers, reflecting the national carrier’s commitment to convenience and cutting-edge innovation.
In line with its commitment to the Kingdom’s economic development, Saudia is committed to prioritizing localization and job creation. By leveraging its subsidiary, Saudia Technic, the airline will bolster its maintenance capabilities to support its expanded fleet. Additionally, it will support the fleet’s advanced technologies while creating jobs and upskilling Saudi talent in line with Vision 2030.
The fleet expansion and modernization efforts reflect the global carrier’s role in achieving the objectives set out in Vision 2030. By increasing guest capacity to 330 million annually and expanding its network to 250 destinations, the airline will drive tourism, connect the Kingdom to the world, and support the growth of religious pilgrimages.
