MINISTER of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir said that the plan to merge Garuda Indonesia and Pelita Air has been included in the roadmap for the next six months.
Erick told a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (01/02) 2025 that his party had gathered the presidents of PT Garuda Indonesia and PT Pelita Air, including the president of Citilink as a subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia, to discuss the roadmap for the next six months.
“Yes, this is back [a meeting], this is part of the roadmap for the next six months. Why did I meet today? It is part of the discussion [regarding the plan to merge the state-owned airlines],” Erick said.
Erick said this after meeting with various aviation BUMNs, namely Garuda Indonesia president director Wamildan Tsani Pandjaitan, Pelita Air president director Dendy Kurniawan, Citilink Indonesia president director Dewa Kadek Rai, InJourney Airports, and Perum Lembaga Penyelenggara Layanan Navigation Indonesia (LPPNPI) or AirNav Indonesia.
The meeting discussed efforts to maintain Indonesia’s aviation safety amid rampant air accidents in several countries, preparations to anticipate the surge in passengers for Lebaran 2025, including discussions on the merger of Garuda Indonesia and Pelita Air.
Erick further said that later the merger of the three state-owned airlines will be separated from both airport management and flights.
Meanwhile, for the flights, further discussions on synergy and restructuring will be held.
“The airport and the flights will remain separate. But between the flights, of course, we will talk about how the synergy and restructuring will be,” Erick said.
“But the ecosystem for the completion of the aviation industry and all its services will not stop because it is a corporate B2B. But the blueprint, the design, will not be delayed. This is part of how we can consolidate more optimally,” Erick added.
Erick hopes to complete the merger of the three airlines this year. It is also part of the flight efficiency solution.
“Yes, it is six months, if possible, this year. Why not last year? The study is everything. It can’t be piecemeal, what’s important is the essence, the solution for national flight efficiency,” concluded Erick. [antaranews]
