PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT ASKS HOTELS TO EMPOWER INDIGENOUS PAPUANS

THE PAPUA provincial government has asked hotels in Bumi Cenderawasih to empower indigenous Papuans to help reduce unemployment and increase family income.

According to Acting Papua Regional Secretary Yohanes Walilo said in Jayapura on Wednesday that the workforce in Papua province was no less capable than those outside.

“Therefore, we ask that the workforce in hotels must be 50:50 so that it helps the government,” he said.

Yohanes explained that there are vocational high schools (SMK) in Papua Province where there are hotel and culinary majors at this level so that these skills can be used.

“The skills of our children are no less than outside, especially through this empowerment, hotels can get local food which can be a selling point,” he pointed out.

He added that his party also asked to sell typical Papuan food that is very marketable to tourists in terms of taste and uniqueness, such as papeda, grilled sago, wrapped papeda and several other menus.

“Please invest in Papua Province, but empower the indigenous Papuan community so that it has a positive impact on the government, families and the hotel itself,” he affirmed.

Meanwhile, Swiss Belexpress general manager Angung Anggoro said empowering the indigenous Papuans (OAP) was a priority.

“Currently, we still have some things that need to be fixed and for the recruitment itself for OAP, it is certainly our priority to get training later,” he said. [antaranews]
