PRESIDENT Prabowo Subianto remains committed to developing Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan, an official said on Saturday (01/18), 2025.
“President Prabowo’s commitment to Nusantara is not lower than that of President Jokowi,” said Dedek Prayudi, the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) spokesperson, referring to Prabowo’s predecessor, Joko Widodo.
Prayudi noted that his office visited the new capital in late December 2024 to assess ongoing infrastructure development in the area, including the Nusantara Mosque project.
He emphasized that Nusantara’s development is progressing without delay.
Nevertheless, Prayudi remarked that the new capital’s development will gradually rely less on the state budget.
He affirmed that domestic and foreign investors recognize the government’s commitment to developing Nusantara, with investments continuing to flow into the project.
He refuted claims that national strategic projects (PSNs) launched during Jokowi’s administration have been discontinued under President Prabowo’s leadership.
Prayudi stressed that although eight quick-win programs focusing on human resources are currently prioritized, the PSNs remain ongoing.
On January 6, Deputy Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara stated that budget realization for Nusantara’s development in 2024 reached IDR43.4 trillion (around US$2.64 billion), or 97.3% of the initial ceiling of IDR44.5 trillion.
He noted that the total allocation for the new capital’s development from 2022 to 2024 was IDR75.8 trillion. [antaranews/photo special]
