TOURISM Minister, Widiyanti Putri said her ministry had successfully maintained the growth of both domestic and foreign tourism in the 100-day working period of the Red and White Cabinet (KMP) led by President Prabowo Subianto.
“In the 100 working days of this government, the Ministry of Tourism has managed to maintain the growth in the number of foreign tourist visits and domestic tourists, which continues to increase compared to the same period in 2023,” Widiyanti said in her press statement in Jakarta, Saturday (02/08), 2025.
She explained that the increase of tourists in Indonesia refers to the latest data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), which was released on February 7, 2025. The latest data shows that foreign tourist visits throughout 2024 reached 13.9 million, and this number is higher than the previous data circulated by the BPS on February 5, which was 13.74 million.
“With the improvement of the data, it means that the growth of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in 2024 will reach 19.05% higher compared to 2023. Regarding the movement of domestic tourists, that this has also experienced significant growth,” Widiyanti affirmed.
In 2024, BPS summarized that there were 1.021 billion domestic tourists who traveled to Indonesia with details in the fourth quarter of 2024 alone, there were 263.13 million domestic tourists who traveled.
Overall, compared to 2023, which produced 839.67 million domestic tourists, the number of domestic tourists in 2024 increased by 21.7%. The increase in the number of tourist visits, both domestic and international, is expected to have a positive impact on the national economy.
The tourism sector is estimated to contribute US$16.7 billion in foreign exchange in 2024, an increase of 19.3% compared to 2023. In addition, the contribution of the tourism sector to the national GDP is estimated to reach 4.01-4.5% in 2024.
Widiyanti believes that the growth trend in tourists will continue from 2025 to the future and will be able to strengthen the contribution of Indonesia’s tourism sector. [traveltext.id]
