MANDALIKA CIRCUIT TO HOST GT WORLD CHALLENGE ASIA FROM MAY 9-11, 2025

INDONESIA’s Mandalika International Circuit in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), is set to host the GT World Challenge Asia, an international car racing championship, from May 9–11, 2025, featuring a total of 66 racers.

“The international car racing event will showcase 66 racers from 33 teams across 21 countries,” said Priandi Satria, President Director of the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA), in Central Lombok on Sunday (02/23), 2025.

He emphasized that the upcoming GT World Challenge Asia is the result of extensive coordination between his team and the SRO Motorsports Group, which has been assessing the circuit’s readiness and eligibility since 2022.

“The event’s confirmed schedule proves that the Mandalika Special Economic Zone is an attractive venue for the global motorsports scene,” he stated.

Satria further explained that the MGPA had to engage in a series of discussions with the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) to secure approval for the upcoming race.

He noted that this process was necessary because the Mandalika International Circuit was originally designed for motorcycle racing. As a result, several modifications were made to the circuit to ensure the safety of racing cars while maintaining the standards required for motorcycles.

“The run-off areas have been reduced by eight meters, from 10 meters to just two meters from the track’s white lines,” he pointed out.

He also highlighted that both the FIA and FIM had declared the circuit eligible for both car and motorcycle racing events.

Earlier, on February 2, the MGPA president director announced that the Mandalika International Circuit would host at least four international racing events in 2025, including MotoGP, the Asia Road Racing Championship, the GT World Challenge Asia, and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. In addition, the circuit is also set to host domestic races and various non-racing events this year. [antaranews]
