MINISTRY APPRECIATES AIRLINES OPENS NEW ROUTES TO TOURIST CONNECTIVITY

THE MINISTRY of Tourism appreciates and enthusiastically welcomes a number of airlines that continue to expand and introduce new routes to strengthen air connectivity while facilitating tourist mobility.

According to the Deputy for Marketing of the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, in her statement in Jakarta, Monday (02/24), 2025 said that recently several airlines have opened new routes, including Lion Air with 4 new routes and Wings Air with 13 new routes.

“The flights of Lion Air and Wings Air are expected to attract more tourist visits, both foreign and domestic. Because connectivity is the key to increasing the number of tourist visits,” said Made.

Lion Air introduces 4 new routes at once, connecting Palangkaraya to Makassar, Bali, Lombok and the Manado to Bali flight route.

This route will be operated with Boeing 737-800NG (189 economy class seats) and Boeing 737-900ER (215 economy class seats) starting March 21 and 22, 2025.

“Makassar is the most important gateway to eastern Indonesia. With this direct connection, we hope to make it easier for tourists from Palangkaraya to reach major cities in Sulawesi and surrounding areas. The Bali route will also provide great opportunities for the people of Palangkaraya to vacation or develop businesses in the tourism sector,” Made said.

Meanwhile, Wings Air has launched routes from Kendari to Wakatobi and Morowali, Makassar to Poso, Selayar and Raha Pulau Muna, Manado to Gorontalo, Palu to Gorontalo and Ampana Tojo Una-una, Tahuna to Melonguane and Manado, Balikpapan to Tanjung Selor, Ternate to Maba, East Halmahera and Kualanamu to Nagan Raya.

These routes will be served by ATR 72 aircraft with a capacity of 72 economy class seats, which are ideally suited for short and medium haul routes in the archipelago.

Made explained that in addition to increasing tourist mobility, the opening of this new route has the potential to support the economic growth and development of a region.

“With the increase in the number of tourists and businesspeople to Wakatobi, it will certainly have a positive impact on the regional economy, including the potential for increased income for local business operators, accommodation, restaurants and other tourism service providers,” concluded Made.
