THE DEPUTY Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, appreciated the collaboration of Indonesian artists with foreign artists at the “Ireland’s Eye: An Exhibition of New Art from Ireland” at the World Trade Center 2, Jakarta, recently.
According to Irene, said this such collaboration in the arts sector is very important for the growth of the creative economy and the improvement of diplomacy between countries.
“We are very happy to participate in this exhibition and see how art becomes a medium to strengthen relations between nations. This exhibition is not only a place to display works, but also opens up opportunities for collaboration between Indonesian and Irish artists,” said Irene.
This exhibition is the result of a collaboration between ISA Art and Design Gallery, the Embassy of Ireland in Indonesia and Jakarta Land Management. The event features artworks by young artists and graduates of the Master of Fine Arts program from Dublin, Ireland. The exhibition explores themes of globalization, history, identity and the digital revolution through various media such as painting, photography, 3D collage and short film.
In the context of the creative economy, Irene praised the steps taken by the Irish Embassy in Indonesia to produce Indonesian batik with a touch of typical Irish design as an official souvenir. Not only that, I appreciate the existence of a music group in Ireland that plays gamelan.
“We hope that more cooperation can be done in the future, both in visual arts, music and other creative industries, because there are already many real signs that the cultural exchange between the two countries is going well,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Irish Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Pádraig Francis, praised the presence of the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy as a form of togetherness in increasing cooperation in the fields of arts and creative economy.
“We are very pleased with the presence of the Ministry of Creative Economy at this exhibition. We hope that this cooperation can continue and that more collaborations will be created in the future,” said Francis.
Likewise, the President Director of ISA Art and Design, Deborah Iskandar, expressed her hope that more Indonesian artists will have the opportunity to exhibit in Ireland.
According to her, art plays an important role in cultural diplomacy and can be a means for a country to project its identity to the international world.
