THE Directorate General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation has confirmed that the new airline company named Indonesia Airlines cannot yet operate.
This is because to date, the Directorate General of Air Transportation has not received any application for permits or administrative documents from an entity using the name Indonesia Airlines, either related to the establishment of a scheduled commercial air carrier or flight operation permits in Indonesian airspace.
“We confirm that to date, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has not received any application for a Scheduled Commercial Air Transportation Standard Certificate or Aircraft Operator Certificate (AOC) on behalf of Indonesia Airlines,” said Acting Director General of Civil Aviation, Lukman F. Laisa, in his press release on Sunday (03/23), 2025.
Lukman explained that as stipulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation No. PM 35 of 2021 on the Implementation of Air Transportation, any business entity that intends to organize scheduled commercial air transportation is required to comply with the applicable licensing regulations and procedures.
The process includes the submission of administrative documents, technical completeness and fulfillment of operational aspects before obtaining a standard certificate for scheduled commercial air transportation.
In addition, airlines are also required to have an Aircraft Operator Certificate (AOC) as stipulated in the Minister of Transportation’s Regulation No. PM 33 of 2022 on Civil Aviation Safety Regulations Part 119.
Lukman said that without these two certificates, an airline is not allowed to operate scheduled commercial air transportation in Indonesia. All of these requirements must be met in order to ensure standards of safety, security and air services for the public.
The Directorate General of Air Transportation is committed to continue to strictly monitor the implementation of airline operations in Indonesia to ensure that all operating entities comply with national regulations and international aviation safety standards.
“We also appeal to the public to always obtain information from official sources. Don’t be easily influenced by news that has not been confirmed as true,” Lukman said.
The Directorate General of Air Transportation also assures that it will provide the latest information regularly if there are further developments related to Indonesia Airlines or other airlines.
“We will provide any official information through the Directorate General of Air Transportation’s communication channels to avoid any misunderstanding in the community,” he concluded. [sources/photo special]
