AIRASIA Indonesia has inaugurated its inaugural flight from Denpasar to Darwin. This is the airline’s third route to Australia after Perth and Cairns, underlining Indonesia AirAsia’s commitment to strengthening the tourism and business sectors in both countries.
According to Indonesia AirAsia President Director, Veranita Yosephine, Denpasar and Darwin have strong historical and cultural ties and are popular destinations for Australian tourists who want to enjoy the beauty of Bali, as well as for Indonesians who want to explore northern Australia.
“With the opening of this route, we hope to further increase the number of foreign tourists visiting Bali, which also serves as a hub with extensive connectivity to more than 130 destinations in Asia,” said Veranita in a press release on Sunday (03/23) 2025.
She continued, “Indonesia AirAsia flew 2.8 million passengers through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali in 2024.
According to the Bali Province Central Statistics Agency (BPS), 625,665 foreign tourists arrived in Bali in September 2024, of which 24.80% were from Australia. This figure confirms that Australia is the main market for Bali tourism, with a significant contribution to the total number of foreign tourist visits.
Meanwhile, the Northern Territory Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Hon Marie-Clare Boothby, added that Indonesia AirAsia’s re-opening of the Denpasar-Darwin route not only strengthens connectivity between Indonesia and Northern Australia, but also reinforces the historical, cultural and economic ties between the two regions.
“This new route is an important step in making the Northern Territory the best destination in the country to visit, live, work and invest in,” she concluded. [sources/photo special]
