THE MINISTRY of Creative Economy is exploring opportunities to collaborate with Saudi Arabia so that local products are increasingly known abroad. This cooperation plan is a form of orchestration of partnerships in the creative economy sector.
This was conveyed by the Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, during a meeting with the Saudi Arabia-Indonesia Business Council (IBC) at the Pesona Indonesia Film Building, Jakarta, Thursday, (04/18), 2025. It was conveyed that the meeting is very strategic to strengthen business relations between the two countries, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
“This meeting is the beginning to explore the potential for cooperation in the creative economy sector between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. In addition, we believe that good bilateral relations will accelerate the development of the creative economy in various countries,” said Teuku Riefky.
Teuku Riefky explained that the cooperation between the two countries will continue to refer to the value chain, which is in line with what has been determined by the Ministry of Creative Economy.
“We have a value chain that starts with creation, production, distribution, consumption and preservation. This value chain will work if we cooperate and focus. For example, Saudi Arabia can help in the consumption or distribution value chain,” he added.
Meanwhile, Rian Syaf, Special Assistant to the Minister for Strategic Affairs and Inter-institutional Relations, also outlined the opportunities for collaboration, which will be followed by expanding cooperation by promoting the commercialization of creative economy products through an inclusive creative economy.
“In strengthening the inclusive creative economy ecosystem, we can work together on creative economy infrastructure, marketing, incentives, intellectual property facilitation, and protection of creative works. For the next 5 years, we are prioritizing which creative assets have their own uniqueness. The focus will be on how to enhance local products to achieve broad market penetration, especially internationally,” Rian Syaf affirmed.
Furthermore, Teuku Riefky said, “In the future, we will sign a memorandum of understanding so that everything that is planned can be properly monitored so that the cooperation can be realized,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-Indonesia Business Council is one of 46 Saudi foreign business councils established and supervised by the Saudi General Authority for Foreign Trade (GAFT). One of the objectives of the formation of the Saudi-Indonesia Business Council is to increase investment opportunities from the two countries within the economic region.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Saudi-Indonesia Business Council, Ayman Bin Amin Sejiny revealed a lot of information obtained from today’s meeting, both from Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
“We are interested in investing in Indonesia. There are many things that can be learned between the two countries regarding the creative economy,” concluded Ayman Bin Amin Sejiny.
In addition, the Vice Chairman of the Saudi-Indonesian Business Council, Osama Kokandy, expressed his support for the newly formed Ministry of Creative Economy to focus more on various sub-sectors of the creative economy in Indonesia.
“Indonesia is a very important country in Southeast Asia for Saudi Arabia. I am very happy to know that the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Creative Economy have been divided into two. Because the creative economy in Indonesia has many aspects that are very relevant to Saudi Arabia so that we can connect heritage and culture that have similarities such as film, fashion, photography, culinary and music,” concluded Osama Kokandy.
