IN THIS meeting discussed various challenges in the national fashion industry, the Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, held an audience with the Indonesian Fashion Entrepreneur Designers Association (APPMI) at the Autograph Tower Building, Jakarta, the discussion was specifically related to competition with foreign products and preparations for the implementation of Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) 2025, which will be held on May 28-June 1, 2025.
In the audience, Teuku Riefky received a request from APPMI to support the strengthening and development of the Indonesian fashion industry. This is in line with the target of increasing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the creative economy sector by 8.4% by 2029 in the National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJM) 2025-2029.
The Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky, emphasized that the Ministry is committed to supporting the development of local fashion. We have the same passion to encourage the development of Indonesian products,” he said.
He explained that although it cannot be done immediately, strengthening typical Indonesian designs is a very effective strategy. The Ministry of Creative Economy is willing to recommend cross-sectoral collaboration through a hexahelix approach, as well as help in bridging communication with sponsors and encouraging the participation of regional products in IFW 2025.
Teuku Riefky also expressed his interest in the development of the national footwear industry, especially in Mojokerto. It is considered that this potential needs to be raised to a national level, such as IFW 2025, in order to expand the market and strengthen the creative economy of the region.
Meanwhile, APPMI Chairman General and IFW 2025 President Poppy Dharsono said that currently APPMI is home to designers and fashion entrepreneurs from 21 provinces who are the backbone of the regional fashion industry. Their work will be brought to IFW 2025 to promote and build their national brands.
“IFW has been running for 13 years and has become an important platform for regional designers. However, the current situation of the industry is quite tough, with more than 100 garment factories closed due to the pressure of imported fast fashion products. Therefore, we are hoping for government support to promote Indonesian traditional products, which are the identity of national fashion,” Poppy affirmed.
She added that Indonesian designers are not only creative but also innovative in using sustainable materials such as eco-print fabrics made from eco-friendly cotton. This product will be exhibited at Dubai Fashion Week as a halal fabric, targeting a global market of more than two billion Muslim consumers.
Likewise, Yuke Sri Rahayu, Deputy Minister of Creativity, Culture and Design, Ministry of Creative Economy, highlighted the potential of the national footwear industry and the importance of supporting the participation of regional products in events such as IFW to strengthen the regional creative economy ecosystem.
