In response to the decline in the number of foreign tourists, the DIY Tourism Office is targeting foreign tourists from Malaysia.
Meanwhile the head of the DIY Tourism Office, Imam Pratanadi, said that the decline in the number of foreign tourists was caused by various things, one of which was the effect of global.
However, he is still optimistic that he can attract foreign tourists from neighboring countries, namely Malaysia. Malaysia is a potential market because the ringgit currency is currently higher than the rupiah.
“Lately, with the difference between the rupiah and the Malaysian ringgit, which is then quite large. This means that then tourists, potential foreign tourists, especially from Malaysia, see that the value of the ringgit, if then to Indonesia, it is more profitable,” he explained.
This factor is the basis for attracting foreign tourists from Malaysia. The DIY Tourism Office has planned a tourism program to target Malaysian tourists with family trip.
“Actually, we have also planned to invite Famtrip from Penang to come to Yogyakarta,” he said.
According to him, DIY has tourism potential that can be offered to travelers from Malaysia, one of which is nature tourism.
“Especially the beach tourism, which is then their favorite is still Timang Beach. If the Timang Beach, later we can introduce other tourist destination tourism later when there is a famtrip,” he explained. [kompas.com/photo special]
