THE MINISTRY of Environment (KLH) has sealed the project area of the Lido Special Economic Zone (KEK) in Cigombong, Bogor Regency and ordered PT MNC Land to temporarily stop all development activities.
“The sealing was done because the project had not yet received environmental approval. After we installed a monitoring or sealing sign, the Lido SEZ was asked to stop its development because it did not have an environmental permit,” said Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq in Sukaraja, Bogor Regency, Thursday, (05/13), 2025.
Hanif explained that MNC Land had obtained an environmental permit in 2016, but the permit was no longer valid since the Lido Special Economic Zone was established in 2022. This means that the current development does not yet have a permit according to the latest regulations.
Previously, the Bogor regency government had also reprimanded the implementation of this project, but was ignored by the developer. “Because I ignored the warning from the Bogor Regency Government, I went directly to inspect the site on Saturday, February 1, and held an audience with residents and local politicians. The result was that the environmental permit had not been obtained,” Hanif said.
After the inspection, the Ministry of Environment conducted a further investigation and found allegations of environmental damage in the form of land reclamation at Lido Lake. “The alleged environmental damage is in the water body of Lido Lake, where there is a pile of soil or sediment covering three hectares. An investigation is underway,” Hanif said.
According to its official website, the MNC Lido City Special Economic Zone is a special economic zone focused on the tourism sector and was established by Government Regulation (PP) Number 69 of 2021. This zone was inaugurated directly by President Joko Widodo on Friday, March 31, 2023.
Operating under PT MNC Land Tbk, MNC Lido City Special Economic Zone carries the concept of integrated tourism with modern facilities ranging from housing, commercial areas to international scale tourist destinations. Located in the Lido area, which is still part of the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi (Jabodetabek) area, this project covers an area of 1,040 hectares out of a total development area of 3,000 hectares. The location is also strategic because it is in the middle of an area with more than 70 million inhabitants, with Jabodetabek as its main market.
As a world-class tourist destination, the Lido SEZ features several world-class facilities such as Lido World Garden and MNC World Lido. It features MNC Park, Indonesia’s first international-scale amusement park, luxury hotels, resorts and an 18-hole golf course designed by world-renowned golfer Ernie Els. In addition, there will be exclusive villas, Movieland as an integrated movie studio, and the Lido Music & Arts Center, designed as a world-class music and arts venue.
The project is expected to absorb investments of up to IDR34 trillion over the next 20 years, or approximately IDR1.7 trillion per year. Since the start of its operation from 2021 to 2024, the Lido Special Economic Zone has recorded an investment realization of IDR 5.08 trillion and absorbed 4,879 workers.
The MNC Lido City Special Economic Zone (KEK) is known to be affiliated with the Trump Organization, a company owned by the former President of the United States, Donald Trump. This connection can be seen from the appearance of the Trump company logo on the official website of MNC Lido City KEK. In its development plan, this area will be the site for the construction of a new golf course bearing the Trump name.
Based on Tempo report in 2017, PT MNC Land had collaborated with Trump Hotel Collection to build an integrated resort area that included an amusement park in Lido, West Java, as well as the development of the Bali Nirwana Resort area in Tanah Lot, Bali. These two mega projects, later known as MNC Lido City and Bali Nirwana Resort, are estimated to require a total investment of up to IDR 20 trillion. [tempo.co/photo special]
