THE MINISTRY of Tourism will promote Indonesian tourism through the Indonesian Pavilion at the Osaka World Expo 2025 on Yumeshima Island in Osaka, Japan, from May 26 to 31, 2025.
On Friday, May 23, 2025, in Jakarta, the Deputy for Marketing of the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, stated that the Osaka World Expo would effectively promote and improve global awareness of Indonesian tourism products and destinations.
“International-scale events such as the Osaka World Expo are important for promoting Indonesian tourism. This expo is important not only for promoting destinations, but also for improving the quality of Indonesian tourism by introducing unique aspects of our tourism products, such as gastronomy, wellness, and other special interest tourism,” said Made.
The Osaka World Expo is a global event held every five years that showcases innovative products and the best practices of modern industries and technologies, including tourism.
The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) has held the Osaka World Expo since 1851. This year, it took place from April 13 to October 3, 2025, and is expected to capture more than 28.2 million visitors.
The Tourism Ministry will promote the unique interests of Indonesian tourism products through its participation in the Indonesian Pavilion at the Osaka World Expo 2025.
The Ministry of Tourism plans to display Indonesian wellness tourism products in collaboration with Indonesian Atisiri Houses, Mustika Ratu, and the Temple Tourism Park (TWC) during the Rolling Exhibition session at the Indonesia Pavilion from May 26 to 31, 2025.
In addition, the Tourism Ministry, in collaboration with the Indonesian Atisiri House, will hold a workshop titled “Essence of Indonesia: Crafting Memories Through Aromatic Journeys,” displaying the process of making natural body mist products and exploring traditional Indonesian aromas from May 29 to 31, 2025.
As a supporting activity, the Tourism Ministry will hold a Japan 2025 business matching event in Tokyo on May 27 and in Osaka on May 29. Ten Indonesian tourism industry representatives will meet with 30-40 Japanese tourism industry representatives in each city.
Meanwhile the Deputy Assistant for Tourism Marketing of the Ministry of Tourism II, Yulia, added that the Tourism Ministry’s promotional activities at the Osaka World Expo 2025 are important efforts to maintain Indonesia’s position as a top tourist destination for foreign tourists, especially those from Japan.
In 2024, the number of Japanese visitors to Indonesia reached 338,934, marking a 34.57% increase from the previous year.
With a target of 345,000 Japanese tourist visits this year, the presence of Indonesia, and particularly the Ministry of Tourism, at the Osaka World Expo 2025 is expected to achieve this target and maintain the growth trend of potential foreign tourist visits.
Yulia added, “Moreover, with many tourists from around the world visiting the Osaka Expo 2025, the presence of Indonesian pavilions will increase not only the potential visits of foreign tourists from Japan but also from around the world.”
She explained that the presence of Indonesian tourism promotion at this event was one of the Tourism Ministry’s major strategies to attract global tourists, especially those from East Asia, including Japan.
China has long been one of the biggest sources of tourists in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the Republic of Korea recorded 28.7 million outbound tourists last year, and the Japanese market is expected to grow by around 108 percent, reaching 14.1 million potential outbound tourists by 2025.
“These potentials certainly need to be followed up on by accelerating Indonesian tourism promotion activities. One way to do so is by participating in the Osaka World Expo 2025,” Yulia noted.
In order to achieve this goal and improve the quality of Indonesian tourism by participating in events like this, the Ministry of Tourism must collaborate with various stakeholders. “We need to collaborate with other stakeholders, both at home and abroad,” she said.
In the spirit of collaboration, the Ministry’s participation in the Osaka World Expo 2025 included partners from Indonesia and abroad, such as the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas); the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan; the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Osaka, Japan; the Garuda Indonesia Japan Office; the ASEAN-Japan Center (AJC); the Indonesian Atisiri House; Mustika Ratu; and the Taman Tourism Park (TWC).
This collaboration among stakeholders aims to maximize Indonesian tourism promotion activities on a global scale. “Our goal is to attract 8,600 potential foreign tourists from Japan. This target represents not only a number but also the potential for broader economic cooperation in tourism and culture,” she affirmed.
Furthermore, Yulia explained that achieving the target optimally would be difficult without close synergy and collaboration. This collaboration aims to create sustainable, mutually beneficial impacts for all parties in terms of national tourism promotion, strengthening local brands, and empowering tourism actors and the tourism industry.
“Therefore, we greatly appreciate all those who have contributed, and we invite more partners to join us in promoting Indonesian tourism,” Yulia concluded. [traveltext.id]
