INDONESIA AND FRANCE SIGNS US$11 BILLION DEALS DURING MACRON VISIT

INDONESIA and France have signed 27 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth US$11 billion.

Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced that 27 MoUs were signed on Wednesday (05/28), 2025 during the official visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Jakarta.

“Sixteen MoUs were signed (this morning) in the presence of President Macron and President Prabowo Subianto,” Hartarto stated.

The remaining 11 agreements were signed later in the day at the Indonesia-France Business Forum, attended by 368 delegates from both countries.

Hartarto said the agreements reflect the leaders’ shared aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations.

The MoUs span various areas of cooperation, including government-to-government (G2G), business-to-business (B2B), and people-to-people partnerships.

“This will further strengthen the longstanding relationship between Indonesia and France, which has lasted for 75 years,” Hartarto said.

He added that the two nations share many similarities, including philosophical perspectives and approaches to global geopolitical and economic challenges.

Hartarto also encouraged participants of the Indonesia-France Business Forum 2025 to ensure that the signed agreements lead to tangible outcomes, in line with the expectations of both leaders.

“We also aim to unlock more opportunities in trade and investment between the two countries,” he affirmed.

President Macron’s visit to Jakarta and Magelang is scheduled from May 27 to 29. The trip is part of his broader tour of the Indo-Pacific region, which also includes stops in Vietnam and Singapore.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Prabowo welcomed Macron at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. During their meeting, the two countries agreed to cooperate in 21 areas, including defense and a free meals program for schoolchildren. [antaranews]
