INDONESIA FASHION WEEK 2025 SHOWCASES JAKARTA’s CULTURAL DIVERSITY

THE THEME of Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) 2025 is “Ronakultura Jakarta,” which highlights the city’s rich cultural diversity.

“Fashion is not merely a display; it is a form of cultural expression and identity. Through Ronakultura, IFW 2025 aims to showcase how Jakarta is evolving into a vibrant hub for creativity, continuously shaping its identity,” said President of Indonesia Fashion Week Poppy Dharsono at the opening of IFW 2025 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

According to Poppy Dharsono, said the theme selected this year reflects the spirit of the capital city as a living, lively, and colorful culture, a place where traditional culture and contemporary lifestyles intersect and form the authenticity of Jakarta.

“The collection showcased on the first day of the event featured a prevalence of the color mocha, which is anticipated to be a trend this year. The exhibition also featured a selection of wastra {cloth}fabrics from various regions, including Javanese batik, Sumatran songket, Toba ulos, and Lampung tapis,” she said.

She elaborated on the correlation between wastra and this year’s theme, highlighting the long-standing coexistence of diverse cultures with the Jakarta community, which has contributed to a rich tapestry of colors and motifs found in wastra.

“In Jakarta, the Malay nation, which originates from Sumatra, is present. Additionally, there are populations of European, Indian, and Arab descent, as well as Chinese communities. “That’s why it’s multicultural, Ronakultura, with its various colors. In my opinion, it is legitimate whether it is Betawi Batik, because all people live in this metropolitan city of Jakarta,” Poppy said.

All of the collections on display feature work from over 200 designers and 200 tenants from across Indonesia. The program includes fashion shows, trade shows, talk shows, creative forums, entertainment performances, and culinary offerings. These events are designed to build a competitive, inclusive, and sustainable fashion ecosystem.

In addition to local designers, the event, which will be held from May 28 to June 1, 2025, will also present international designers.

“The presence of international designers confirms Jakarta’s position as an increasingly relevant node in the world fashion network,” she remarked.

Poppy emphasized that international collaboration is an important bridge to open access and influence of fashion globally and directly boost the Indonesian economy. [antaranews]
