HANG NADIM AIRPORT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED AS AN ASEAN AIR LOGISTICS CENTER

BATAM International Airport (BIB) has officially established a strategic partnership with InJourney Aviation Services (IAS) to manage the New Cargo Terminal at Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam, Riau Islands.

This partnership was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding, which is an important step in strengthening Batam’s position as an air logistics center in Southeast Asia. This collaboration is also expected to improve the efficiency, capacity, and standards of logistics services in the Riau Islands and nationally.

“The New Cargo Terminal is part of our commitment to make Batam a modern, efficient, and integrated logistics hub, as well as to support domestic and international connectivity,” said President Director of PTBandara Internacional Batam (BIB), Annang Setia Buddhi, when confirming the project on Friday (06/13), 2025.

Annang considered this momentum to be very crucial in developing a highly competitive national logistics ecosystem. The new cargo terminal at Hang Nadim Airport is expected to improve the flow of goods and increase the volume of cargo served.

According to BIB, IAS was selected due to its status as a subholding of PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (InJourney), which encompasses nine subsidiaries of PT Angkasa Pura I (AP I), PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II), and Garuda Indonesia.

IAS aims to establish itself as a professional, integrated aviation, logistics, and cargo service provider with the capacity to compete regionally,” stated Annang.

IAS’s business portfolio is divided into five segments: ground handling and cargo terminals, logistics, hospitality, operation support, and property. The company also offers 12 aviation and logistics services that are regarded as competent and competitive.

This collaboration is intended to enhance the competitiveness of Hang Nadim Airport in the face of intensifying regional competition in the air logistics sector.

Annang’s analysis concluded that enhanced capacity and efficiency could lead to an increase in cargo activities in Batam, potentially positioning it as a catalyst for regional and national economic growth. [kompas.com/photo special]
