SKYTRAX is often dubbed the “Oscar of the Aviation Industry” and is the most prestigious award in aviation. In addition to releasing a list of the best airlines, Skytrax released a list of the cleanest airlines.
According to Aviation A2Z, this award is based on the standard assessment of the cleanliness of the aircraft cabin. The cleanliness and presentation of seating areas, tables, carpets, cabin panels, and bathrooms all contribute to the final results.
Eva Air (BR), a Taiwanese airline, officially won the title of cleanest airline in the 2025 Skytrax World Airline Awards. Eva Air stands out thanks to its consistent high hygiene standards, both on land and in the air.
This achievement strengthens Eva Air’s reputation as a full-service airline with the highest quality of both its hard and soft products in its class. Cleanliness is EVA Air’s top priority in maintaining passenger comfort and health.
A special team thoroughly cleans each part of the cabin, including chairs, folding tables, entertainment screens, handles, and the top compartment, between each flight. Cabin crew actively maintain cleanliness during flights. In fact, the food containers used meet international sanitation standards to ensure the cabin kitchen remains hygienic.
EVA Air complements its entire air conditioning system with a HEPA filter, which kills 99.97 percent of fine bacteria and particles. The cabin air is regularly updated to maintain fresh, virus-free air that is comfortable to breathe, especially when crossing time zones or experiencing extreme weather conditions.
All Nippon Airways (ANA) from Japan took second place. This airline maintains strict cleanliness standards in the cabin and uses layovers to thoroughly clean the chairs, carpets, and linens. Like Eva Air, ANA uses HEPA filters to ensure air quality.
Meanwhile, Cathay Pacific Airways (CX) from Hong Kong entered the top three. This airline maintains cleanliness with a special cleaning team at its main base in Hong Kong.
Aircraft that stay overnight are regularly cleaned, from vacuuming the carpet to sterilizing sensitive surfaces such as entertainment screens and folding tables with the WHO’s standard cleaning agent.
Cathay Pacific also uses a sophisticated air filtering system to maintain sterile air circulation at high altitudes. The schedule for cleaning the outside of the aircraft is designed to maintain an excellent appearance.
