FOLLOWING the recent re-establishment of Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang as an international airport, the Central Java Provincial Government is now submitting a request for Adi Soemarmo Airport in Solo to be upgraded to international status. This will allow Central Java to soon have two international airports.
According to the Head of the Central Java Transportation Agency, Arief Djatmiko, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi fully supports the application for international status for Adi Soemarmo Airport in Solo.
Djatmiko hopes that the upgrade to international status as a connectivity hub will have a positive impact on the tourism sector and the economy.
“God willing, Adi Soemarmo Airport will also become international this year, and it will be Central Java’s gateway to sub-regional and regional development. Support for tourism, employment, and factories with large investments in Central Java will be abundant. If it becomes international, it will be extraordinary,” Miko said when confirmed on Friday (9/26), 2025.
He explained that the momentum of National Transportation Day 2025, which falls on September 17, 2025, also serves as an important reflection for improving transportation infrastructure in Central Java.
Therefore, this step also reflects the Central Java Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthening transportation accessibility.
“This is actually part of the efforts already undertaken by the Governor. His commitment is how transportation sector development can improve connectivity and accessibility for equitable development in Central Java,” he said.
Equally importantly, Miko highlighted the importance of multimodal integration in the region, which is being pursued by connecting primary modes such as airports, ports, and trains with regional public transportation such as Trans Jateng and Trans Semarang.
“Yesterday, we launched si-Anteng using Bank Jateng’s QRIS. We’ll be using QRIS on October 1st, so this modernization will further improve accountability for Central Java,” he continued.
Furthermore, he also revealed the Central Java Transportation Agency’s plan to add Trans Jateng corridors to expand services to reach all areas in Central Java. The two corridors being prepared for 2027 are the Purworejo-Wonosobo-Magelang-Mungkid-Temanggung (Purwo-Manggung) route.
“If progress is very good, there’s a possibility the Governor will accelerate other initiatives,” Miko concluded. [Kompas.com/photo special]
