A FERTILITY treatment center is set to open in the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Denpasar, Bali, reinforcing the island’s position as a world-class destination for health and wellness tourism.
“This marks a major milestone in the transformation of Indonesia’s health tourism sector,” said President Director of PT Hotel Indonesia Natour (HIN) Christine Hutabarat during a press event in Denpasar on Tuesday (10/07), 2025.
In its initial phase, the center will be developed through a partnership between HIN – a state-owned enterprise and the designated developer and operator of the Sanur SEZ – and a Malaysian fertility clinic network, which has signed a land lease agreement for the project.
The collaboration marks the beginning of construction for an internationally accredited fertility health center on a 6,343-square-meter plot within the Sanur SEZ.
According to Hutabarat, the facility will offer comprehensive fertility care, including in-vitro fertilization (IVF), obstetrics, gynecology, and integrated women’s and pediatric health services. Alpha IVF representative Dato’ Dr. Colin Lee noted that Indonesia’s demand for fertility services continues to grow.
Her organization aims to support the Indonesian government’s vision of establishing the Sanur SEZ as a premier health tourism destination. “With this center in Bali, we hope to bring international standards closer to the Indonesian public,” she said.
Sanur SEZ is Indonesia’s first integrated health and tourism zone, inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto on June 25 this year.
Spanning 41.26 hectares, the zone is part of a national strategic project designed to host a range of modern, integrated facilities – including internationally certified medical services, hotel and MICE accommodations, and a health research center.
National SEZ Council projected the Sanur SEZ to attract IDR10.2 trillion in total investment and create 18,375 direct and 25,272 indirect jobs once fully operational. As of the first quarter of 2025, the SEZ has already recorded IDR4.42 trillion in cumulative investment and generated 3,822 jobs.
By positioning Sanur as a world-class medical tourism hub, the government aims to attract both domestic and international visitors seeking high-quality care.
This move is expected not only to significantly boost Bali’s tourism sector but also to establish Indonesia as a key player in the regional medical tourism market, thereby reducing the reliance of citizens on seeking medical treatment abroad. [antaranews]
