MINISTRY PUBLISHES A STUDY OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF GREEN TOURISM

THE MINISTRY of Tourism publishes a study of strengthening the implementation of green tourism in Indonesia in the form of scientific publication of Tourism Snapshot Vol. 1 No. 2 of 2025.

“The key to the success of this transition lies in the preparation of competent human resources with standardized quality assurance. In order to answer the needs of the future tourism industry,” said Assistant Deputy for Strategic Management of Tourism Ministry, I Gusti Ayu Dewi Hendriyani as confirmed in Jakarta, Tuesday (10/07), 2025.

Dewi said that this Tourism Snapshot edition raised the theme “Green Jobs, Green Skills, and Green Quality: Encouraging the Green Transition of the Tourism Sector” and focused on the three main pillars, namely green work, environmentally friendly skills and green quality.

The Green Jobs session will review the opportunities and projections of environmentally friendly tourism workers. In contrast to Green Skills which discusses the readiness of the curriculum, training, and competence of human resources to support the green economy, and green quality examines the quality assurance and certification of human resources according to sustainability standards.

The assessment was carried out because the transition of green tourism in Indonesia is considered to be very important. The results are expected to increase the competitiveness of the nation as well as a contribution.

“This commitment is in line with the vision of international development partners who views the green transition as a necessity,” Dewi said.

Global market trends also highlighted the same thing, so that a change in tourist behavior emerged.

In addition to the study, in 2022-2023 the Ministry of Tourism had prepared 34 competency standards. Some of them are the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI), the Indonesian National Qualification Framework (KKNI), and the Implicitly Implicit Scheme has contained some aspects of sustainable tourism.

“The government also immediately harmonized tourism standards in the existing ASEAN and Global regions. This includes renewing the curriculum, especially for community-based tourism or community-based tourism alias CBT, and developing certification for strategic managerial levels,” he said.

Dewi said that the International Labor Organization (ILO) has confirmed that this transition will create a green job that is beneficial to the community, the environment, and economy. Therefore, harmony between the government and development partners is needed.

So as to achieve the creation of green work that supports the development of green tourism in Indonesia, the industry and tourism education institutions gradually need to adopt sustainability practices and create the need for environmentally friendly skills. Because, the absorption of labor in the context of transition towards green tourism promises positive economic potential to the welfare of the workforce.

Not only green jobs and environmentally friendly skills, the quality assurance of competency that is also important in the development of green tourism. [traveltext.id]
