I GUSTI NGURAH RAI AIRPORT PROMOTES BALI AS A GLOBAL TOURISM DESTINATION

BALI’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport continues to improve service standards and strengthen flight connectivity to support Bali’s rise as a global tourism destination. From January to September 2025, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport served approximately 18.23 million passengers, a 1% increase compared to the same period last year.

According to I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport General Manager, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, passenger growth on international routes is in line with the new routes opened this year. Specifically for international routes, the number of passengers reached 11.53 million during the first nine months of 2025, a 9% increase.

“PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) and airlines continue to strengthen flight connectivity in Bali as a joint effort to support Balinese tourism. Several new international routes will open in Bali this year, the latest of which will be launched in September 2025, to and from Chengdu (China) and Cheongju (South Korea),” he said in a recent press release in Jakarta.

The airport operator is strengthening connectivity after Bali was named the most beautiful island in Asia in 2025 by Condé Nast Traveler magazine. Bali achieved the highest score of 96.86, earning it the number one title in the Best Island in Asia category in The Best Island in the World 2025: Readers’ Choice Awards.

“I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, along with other stakeholders, is promoting flight connectivity to continue showcasing Bali’s beauty to the world. We are committed to fully supporting Bali as a global tourism destination by providing the best service to domestic and international tourists from the moment they arrive at the airport,” Syaugi explained.

According to him, InJourney Airport continues to transform I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. The transformation is driven by three pillars: Premises, which provides world-class infrastructure. This includes the construction of an aesthetically pleasing and magnificent pedestrian bridge (JPO) connecting the terminal building with the motor vehicle parking area.

The JPO building features a conveniently designed pick-up point. The passenger terminal has also been redesigned and beautified, incorporating greenery and Balinese architectural styles.

“The terminal area has been reorganized to optimize airport capacity to 32 million passengers per year, up from the previous 24 million. Meanwhile, the landside area outside the terminal has been expanded with road access and traffic flow improvements. This transformation strengthens I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport as a tourism gateway in Indonesia,” Syaugi concluded. [sources/photo special]
