THE GOVERNMENT, through the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), is developing MSME-based gastronomic tourism at the village level to boost economic potential and expand markets both at home and abroad.
“We will focus on building and growing tourist villages,” said MSME Minister Maman Abdurrahman on the sidelines of opening the 2025 International Conference related to tourism, gastronomy and tourist destinations (TGDIC) in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali, Friday (10/17), 2025.
Currently, Indonesia has around 6,156 tourist villages which have great potential to develop gastronomic tourism potential, through pilot or priority scale villages.
According to him, gastronomy, which is closely related to culinary delights, is one of the main triggers for the tourism sector when tourists travel.
Moreover, he continued, the culinary sector contributes around 41% of the total gross domestic product (GDP) of the national creative economy. Meanwhile, both culinary and tourism are driven by micro, small and medium enterprises which have been the backbone of the national economy.
In order for gastronomic tourism to boost the regional economy and attract tourists, he said, the food ingredients used must come from local farmers and fishermen, culinary delights are hygienic and creative, culinary delights have stories and cultural value, and marketing utilizes digital channels.
To strengthen MSME actors, his party provides training on hygiene standards, packaging, home industry and halal certification. Then, assistance with business management, digital marketing, and gastronomic business incubation programs in regional superior culinary centers.
Apart from that, capital factors are also directed through people’s business credit (KUR), one of which is towards the tourism sector. The Ministry of MSMEs noted that in 2025, the government has allocated a KUR ceiling of IDR300 trillion.
As of October 6 2025, the realization of distribution had reached IDR206.2 trillion which was distributed to 3.5 million debtors and the KUR allocation for the production sector exceeded the target of 60%, with total distribution reaching IDR 24.7 trillion.
On the sidelines of the conference held by the Trisakti Tourism Institute, the Minister of UMKM (MSMEs) invited all parties to work together, including educational institutions.
Responding to this challenge, the Chancellor of the Trisakti Tourism Institute, Fetty Asmaniati, supports the government, one of which is by accelerating the development of tourist villages.
The way to do this, he said, is by providing assistance, for example education and creating innovations to MSME players who have so far developed 15 tourist villages in Java and Sumatra.
“We from the world of education want to promote tourism, gastronomy and tourist destinations so that we hope to echo the destinations of our country,” she concluded. [antaranews]
