MaiA INTELLIGENCE STREAMLINES TRAVEL PLANNING FOR TOURISTS

THE INDONESIAN Ministry of Tourism has introduced the Meticulous Artificial Intelligence of Indonesia (MaiA), an innovative tool designed to facilitate the planning process for tourists.

“The launch of MaiA is a concrete manifestation of the government’s commitment to creating a smart, inclusive, and sustainable tourism ecosystem,” said Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana at the launch event in Jakarta on Friday, (11/29), 2025.

As Widiyanti explained, MaiA is an artificial intelligence platform designed to improve the quality of national tourism services through adaptive, intelligent, and tourist-focused technology. This platform is accessible via indonesia.travel and represents a significant milestone in Indonesia’s digital tourism transformation.

In addition to being a government technological innovation, MaiA also represents a new spirit in Indonesian tourism services. MaiA is presented as a digital friend that understands travelers’ needs, helps find travel inspiration, creates routes instantly, and assists travelers in exploring Indonesia with more confidence and comfort.

This technology functions as an intelligent curator and digital travel companion through various superior features, such as personalized destination recommendations, automated itineraries, interactive maps, and destination information summaries in various languages.

“This initiative represents our commitment to showcasing tourism that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also intelligent and inclusive for all,” she said.

The launch is part of the Ministry of Tourism’s priority program, Tourism 5.0, and is a response to changing global travel behavior, which increasingly demands personalized, efficient, and accessible travel experiences.

Its presence is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global market while supporting the government’s efforts to create sustainable and user-friendly tourism.

Widiyanti also expressed her hope that MaiA will provide added value for tourists and strengthen Indonesia’s position as an innovative and relevant destination amidst global tourism competition.

The Minister of Tourism stated that the integration of MaiA signifies a pivotal step forward for Indonesian tourism, propelling it towards a future that is more adaptive, competitive, and world-class.

Meanwhile Pradhana H.S., the Ministry of Tourism’s AI Development Team Lead, added that MaiA can personalize destinations to suit tourists’ interests.

“MaiA is prepared to address any inquiries regarding Indonesian tourism, regardless of the type of visitor,” Pradhana stated.

MaiA is available at no cost to website visitors and is offered in various languages. The available languages include Indonesian, Hong Kong, English, French, and Arabic. This technology provides a chat box so users can ask the MaiA character more detailed questions. Users can utilize the audio voice feature to review and correct each word recorded in the chat.

In addition to assisting with trip planning, MaiA can also provide culinary recommendations for destinations. It also provides information about award-winning tourist villages. MaiA’s information includes weather reports for tourist destinations, as well as recommendations for what tourists should prepare before visiting. [traveltext.id]
