THE MINISTRY of Creative Economy said that the contribution of the creative economy sector to Indonesia’s GDP has exceeded the annual target, so this momentum will be strengthened through strengthening the hexahelix collaboration and focusing on bringing local Intellectual Property (IP) to the world stage
According to the Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, said that this was conveyed at the 2025 Trend Maker Summit in Bali, which is a strategic stage for orchestrating Indonesia from a trend consumer to an international trend maker.
“Now synergy is needed to build strong cross-sector collaboration through stakeholders at the international level. The hexahelix approach will be a joint innovation between government, academics, financial institutions, media, communities and business people so that Indonesia shifts from being a trend consumer to becoming a new trend maker in terms of creativity and economics,” said the Minister at the Jimbaran Bali, Thursday (11/27), 2025.
Not only that, the Minister of Creative Economy also encourages data strengthening, talent development, protection of Intellectual Property Rights, and access to sustainable financing to encourage a globally competitive national creative economy ecosystem.
On the other hand, the Minister of Creative Economy also highlighted the growth, latest achievements, and programs of the Ministry of Creative Economy in 2026 which will trigger sustainability solutions and influence future trends, such as the implementation of the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE), a global platform that focuses on the role of the creative economy in global development, which was held in Bali. The Minister of Creative Economy expects support, collaboration and partnership from everyone in this room, to ensure its success and global impact.
“In October 2026, Indonesia will host the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) which will be the basis for forming international creative economy policies,” Teuku Riefky Harsya stated.
On the other hand, the Minister of Creative Economy emphasized the importance of understanding shifts in culture, technology and consumer behavior which will influence the expansion of the workforce and increase the contribution of creative economy to GDP.
“The contribution of the creative and creative sector to GDP has more than doubled from IDR700 trillion in 2013 to IDR1,500 trillion in 2024. Of course, this has exceeded the 2025 target whose contribution is equivalent to 7% of national GDP,” said the Minister of Creative Economy.
Furthermore, the Minister of Creative Economy explained that the creative industry must be able to translate awareness of trends that have an economic and social impact through product innovation, experience and policies that shape the future. For example, the Pacu Jalan competition has become a global creative phenomenon and gone viral on social media.
“We would like to appreciate Katadata Indonesia and OMG Consulting together with TrendWatching for the initiative of the 2025 Trend Maker Summit. This is a form of collaboration that shares the same spirit of how Indonesian IP can go international. Of course, we need to orchestrate this together so that it is more structured and has more impact on investment, exports, employment, as well as contribution to GDP,” he explained.
Trend Maker Summit 2025 is here as a space of inspiration and learning for industry leaders for two days 27-28 November 2025. With the theme Indonesia’s Innovation Journey: Inspiring the Future, this event also celebrates trends and innovations from Indonesia which are still following world trends and have the possibility of creating new trends.
“This conference is a meeting place where global expertise meets local opportunities, enabling businesses, policy makers and innovators to understand and act on the forces that shape the future. We cannot predict the future, but we can read trends. This event discusses various world trends from which we will draw local inspiration so that in 2026 we can map and carry out innovations that have a real impact,” said Founder of OMG Creative Consulting, Yoris Sebastian.
Bali is one of 15 priority locations for developing the creative economy where the potential of the young generation is extraordinary with the support of an ecosystem that always receives global recognition. The Ministry of Creative Economy always coordinates with regional governments to boost the creative economy as the new engine of national economic growth (the new engine of growth).
